Belichick: To go or not to go?

Obviously, everyone and their brother are talking about Bill Belichick's decision to go for a 4th and 2 on his own 28 yardline. But, was it really that bad of a decision? Was he really saying he thought his offense had a better chance of gaining 2 yards in one play than his defense had of stopping the Colts from going 70 yards (roughly)? No and No. Bill Belicheck actually was looking at it completely different then that. He gave his team 2 chances to win in this instance instead of 1. If he elects to kick the ball, either his defense stops them or they don't, that's 1 chance to win. If he goes for it, he gives his offense 1 more chance to ice the game. If the offense cannot ice the game, he is also giving his defense a chance to win the game as well, thus giving his team 2 chances to win. Besides, so many people are looking at it as if it was Bill deciding whether or not his odds were better by going for it, or not giving up 70 yards to the Colts. The decision was actually, do I give my team one more chance to win it right here and now, or do I take the risk of whatever my special teams can do for field position? Seriously, if you would've told Belichick that the punter would've boomed one and pinned them deep inside the 20 yardline I'm sure he would've taken it. That's not the case however. The fact is that the punt would've been a middle of the field punt and many times the opposing team gets the ball at roughly mid-field. That's not much of a gain in field posistion, and certainly not worth giving up a chance to have already won the game. All of that being said, I STILL would've punted the ball. We should not bash Belichick, we should praise him, praise him for wanting to do whatever it takes to win!
